Softly Flowing Waters
There is something sustaining about being around water running softly through the woods even if you aren't wading in it or drinking it. The sight and sound of the water bubbling over logs and stones is relaxing, and the shade is soothing. When I was a child, I was excited to wade in temporary streams formed in otherwise dry ditches from the early spring thaw, and disappointed when they didn't become a permanent feature of our farm.
