Snowy Owl
In "Snowy Owl", my intent is to show the startling beauty of this bird that dwells in the arctic regions, with its nests built mostly out in the open. It is equipped to survive in this harsh climate, and raise its young with little shelter, but its numbers have declined in recent years. Once its global population was estimated at over 200,000 but recent data suggests that there are probably fewer than 100,000. Complex environmental factors correlated with global warming are believed to be the main cause.
Like most owls, the Snowy Owl has inspired folklore and symbolism. Because the Snowy Owl is one of a few owl species that is active and hunts during the day time, it may be associated with winter days, or with individuality. Snowy Owls may have an added layer of symbolism connecting them to purity, as the color white is often associated with peace, purity, and honesty.
