Moonlight Flight on Brush Mountain

This is a drawing of part of Hensley Settlement on top of Brush Mountain in Kentucky. When I visited there years ago, I did see an owl in the woods as the guide drove us up the side of the mountain in his van. I felt really fortunate because it's rare to see an owl, and I saw this one in the afternoon, when it should have been sleeping. The tour guide told us about the people who had lived there, and about some of the superstitions and beliefs held by the people of that time and culture. Owls, because of their appearance, silent movement, and nocturnal habits were the focal point of some of these beliefs. I wondered what it would have been like to live there, with that belief system. Seems spooky.

It was a spooky looking night, when I took the digital photo of the moon and clouds that I combined with this drawing. I love the over-all effect.
